Hi, I had an episiotomy (forceps delivery) with my first childbirth & I'm due again in 5 months. I'd really like to avoid another episiotomy as the recovery was VERY painful. Once you've had one is it common to need another? The scar tissue looks very
Answer: Hi, It is very common to have an episiotomy with a forceps birth. More than likely this time you won't need any assistance with the second stage (the pushing stage) and the baby will be born without assistance. If you have a lot of scarring you may tear during the birth but a natural tear is much less painful than an episiotomy and will heal quite quickly. Try to control the birth of the baby's head by going slowly so that your perineum has time to stretch and avoid tearing. Best wishes, Alex.
