We asked our Huggies Mums for some fertility tips and a little insight into what conceiving and being pregnant was like for them.
Here’s what you told us!
Try to relax and not to concentrate too much on the job at hand. Let nature take its course.
Both times I ate garlic prawns and I got pregnant. Also I had started eating vegemite again after years of not liking it.
I have to agree with others, once you relax and “forget” about what you are trying to do…it happens! And that’s through experience! Expecting in 3 weeks.
I tried everything! Where do I start? … Try evening primrose oil until after ovulation, it helps your ‘fertile mucous’ be a nice consistency for the sperm to swim through. Don’t take after ovulation as it can cause uterus to contract therefore not allowing a fertilised egg to attach itself.
Shatavari – a herb is meant to help for fertility, it’s worth trying and hopefully you’ll see a difference.
I didn’t drink any alcohol for a month, I ate well and was training for an Olympic distance triathlon when I unexpectedly fell pregnant!
Raspberry leaf tea tablets, women’s balance multi vitamin and definitely ACCUPUNTURE!
I brought a fertility kit from Coles. First I kept track of my cycle on babycentre.com. By doing this I knew roughly when I was ovulating and luckily fell pregnant on the first try. I’m thankful for both my babies.
I just started taking Blackmore’s Conceive-Well Gold. This was just to ensure that my body started off with all the right minerals and vitamin levels. If it did not work, I knew that at least I had tried. It paid off – one month down and I was pregnant.
If falling pregnant seems to not happen so easily, maybe go to your doctor and ask for a thyroid function test and thyroid antibody level.
I always get pregnant after losing a large amount of weight. I wasn’t overly heavy but just stopped thinking about getting pregnant and started doing things for myself like eating better and exercising more. Both times I have lost around 8kgs and also fallen pregnant.
Losing weight did it for me and to help me reach my goal, my hubby had to quit smoking (we we’re both in it together!). Not stressing about it, and the decision to go see a doctor, probably did something too as just before I booked to see her, I found out I was 9 weeks.
I started taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid 3 months before trying. I stopped all bad habits, for example – smoking. I started charting my cycle on a period tracker application. Then when I was ovulating, I had sex every second day and didn’t go the toilet and urinate straight after. I got pregnant the first month of trying this year.
I was lucky, both my son and #2 (due end Oct) were first try, my hubby and I didn’t worry or stress. We thought to ourselves, “Well now is a good time and if it happens, then it does and if it doesn’t happen then it will when the time is right!” We had no expectations and no pressure; otherwise it’s like a chore and devastating if there is no reward. I also believe that your thoughts create your environment! Therefore positive thoughts = positive environment.
Being happy and healthy and don’t turn it into a chore! It is said that being in the right mood can double your chances of falling pregnant. You can’t be in that mood if you are constantly worrying or stressing about times, ovulation, temperature and the rest. In most cases, if it is meant to be it will. My little girl was conceived whilst I was on the pill, and I took it religiously!
After trying for a long time and trying lots of ‘remedies’ nothing seemed to work. We thought we would be looking at medical intervention. I read something about avocados being good for fertility, so I ate 3-4 a week and was pregnant the next month! Maybe a coincidence, but I was willing to try anything by that stage!
After considerable time trying to fall with my first one, I started using a ‘maybe baby’ so I knew when I was ovulating. It was all over the place but the month I got pregnant, I ovulated around day 5 of my cycle. The 2nd one ended up going on fertility needles for 2 months, then I decided to have a break and 3rd one was a surprise. For all 3, I have lost considerable amount of weight, so not sure if that contributed at all.
Relax, break your routine life and take a romantic holiday, just for the two of you and indulge yourself. We went to broome!
I was told that I could not have kids due to operations etc. I have two boys, both being c sections and I was told again not to expect to get pregnant. It was because of my age and the amount of scar tissue etc. and I was also on strong pain killers daily and pill to regulate periods. My hubby and I talked about the idea of a bub and after few weeks of my operation, I found out that I was pregnant. A gorgeous baby girl broke all the barriers and now I truly believe that there is hope and don’t give up!
There’s a book called ‘the billings method’ which is very helpful about learning and understanding your body. We tried the method and at the very first month I got pregnant and we got our first daughter!
Eat lots of protein and get plenty of exercise – this worked for me. I lost around 5-10kgs and got pregnant. I also had endometrioses, an ectopic pregnancy and Luteal Phase Deficiency but, finally, everything has worked out. Currently, I am 23 weeks pregnant.
I got checked out recently and the doctors found out that I have a polyp uterus. So after the operation, they said that I will be able to convince naturally. You must go to the doctor for check up, it does not pay you much. I wish you good luck!
I think it’s great that there are so many suggestions out there but unfortunately the ’don’t think about it’ and ‘try not to stress about it’ suggestions are so much more easily said that done. If you haven’t had trouble conceiving, when it’s something you want so badly, it is hard to understand that it can become the centre of your universe. When all you really want is a baby and you can’t do it naturally, one of the hardest things to do is to put it out of your mind. But I do agree that if you are going through IVF, acupuncture it helps a lot.
Do not use the lubricant, it kills the sperm.
Make sure your partner is getting enough vitamins especially vitamin D. My hubby started taking Centrum and I took 100 mg of aspirin a day as I was falling pregnant but not hanging on to the baby! This advice came from Fertility First clinic in Hurstville and worked after five years of trying, IVF etc.
We had to do IVF after the discovery of polycystic ovaries. So to increase my chances, I gave up coffee and lost weight. Within 6 months, I was as healthy as possible and was fortunate enough to fall pregnant.
After 4 years of trying naturopathic treatments, giving up caffeine, losing weight and failing a IUI cycle, I had no luck. Then I decided to leave my high-stress job (even though I loved it) and I fell pregnant the next time I did an IUI cycle. Now I have my precious daughter!
I had trouble with my hips being out of alignment and I went and saw a chiropractor. I had been trying for 2 years and was willing to try anything. I became pregnant and now I have a 10 month old boy.
I just raised my body temperature and stuck a pillow under me afterwards. I conceived within one month.
Stop drinking, be spontaneous and know when you are most fertile. We followed all that and it took us 2 months to get pregnant.
Get your hormones balanced – the pill can mess around with your hormone balance especially if you are like some women who use it to miss your period, etc. To do this take vitex Agnes cactus – in the vitamin section of pharmacy – obviously talk to the doctor or pharmacist. Stop worrying – once I came to terms with the fact I might not be able to have a baby, I got pregnant now have beautiful baby girl.
Cut out all caffeine, it can reduce fertility by 50% or more and if you’re already having issues this will not help! (This is what I was told by my Obstetrician).
I read that eating kiwi fruit helps you to prepare for getting pregnant. I tried it after 3 years with no luck and am now due to give birth in next 2 days.
Try Chinese medicine (herbs) and acupuncture, it can help you with getting pregnant.
Not everyone has a 28 day cycle, I have a 21 day cycle, that’s where a tracking application can come in handy. You put in the days of your periods and it tells you the day you are most fertile. There are many of them out there.
My partner started taking zinc supplements after 4yrs of trying, we now have a baby boy. It says on the bottle that zinc helps with the male health. Obviously it does!
Get your thyroid function tested and interpreted properly. For the last five years I have suffered from late first trimester miscarriages and infertility because this wasn’t done.
